Life as an Interior Design Student

My love for Interior Design began when I was 17. I was still at school, taking my A-levels, but they didn't offer any courses in the area of Interior Design, and frustratingly, neither did my local college. I decided to take a level 2 Diploma in Interior Design at the local Adult-Education Centre, which was amazing.... I was addicted! 

After my A- levels I got a job in a bar in London, and started saving up to travel the world. My first stop was NewZealand, followed shortly by Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos.

After being away for a while I came home and started my next course: The level 3 Diploma in Interior Design- with the National Design Academy. This course was a life saver for me. I didn't want to go to University full time, as I hate the idea of taking a loan simply to pay my student fees- The debt seemed like an unnecessary burden, when by studying part time via distance learning, I could not only pay my fees in monthly instalments, but as long as I had my trusty laptop, I could continue to work and travel so I actually finished the Diploma when I was living in Nepal!

After 6 Months of living and working as a volunteer teacher in Nepal, I travelled around India for a while, before returning home.

Which is where I am now. I am currently studying the Degree in Interior Design (also with the National Design Academy)

It is difficult trying to fit in a degree around a full time job, but I know it will be worth it! I am just waiting for the day I have enough experience and qualifications to work as an Interior designer full time.... bliss!

I have been influenced a lot by my travels to Asia, and you will see it occasionally popping up in my designs. The Mood-board below was one I created for the diploma- for an interior inspired by Thailand- what do you think? I love the dark wood and the rich colours.
